DIY PROTEIN HAIR MASK
Hey Babes,
With all the spare time I’ve had during quarantine, I’ve been trying to steal away moments here and there for a little self-care. Don’t get me wrong there has been a large amount of Netflix watching, baking and recipe testing and river walks. With little need for a ton of structure, I’ve been trying to keep my hair treatment and skincare regime going strong. I’ve just recently reached a really great hair length again and want to keep it as healthy as possible! So… with just a couple of ingredients you most likely have in your kitchen, you can make this DIY hair mask and include the whole household!
Ingredients:
2 Eggs – Whole egg if your hair is medium to thick and just the whites if your hair is fine. I’d air on the side of caution.
Apple Cider Vinegar – ½ Tablespoon
Avocado Oil – 1.5 Tablespoon
Tips:
It’s kinda messy so make sure you are set up in an area that is easy to clean.
You might need to wash your hair a couple of times to really get all of the mask out properly. It’s an oil-based treatment so that means it’s going to be a little more resistant to the shampoo. You can also refer to my blog post It’s All In The Wash for more hair washing tips.
Don’t give a full judgement of your results until a few days down the road after you’ve washed it again. My hair felt so incredibly full, squeaky clean, and super strong, but also kind of weird. You’re going to want to balance this shortly after by using a moisturizing hair treatment. Anytime you do something overly strengthening you want to compliment that with moisture or it could leave your hair feeling somewhat straw-like or heavy which is obviously the opposite of what we’re trying to accomplish.
Don’t leave your mask on for longer than 30 minutes. We got distracted and I left it on for longer and I wondered if that added to the interesting feeling my hair had.
Will I try this again? ABSOLUTELY, I felt like the benefits were really awesome and I loved that I had everything right in my kitchen. I think making DIY hair masks will be my new hobby!
All in all, I thought this was a fun way to spend a little time getting creative and putting in a little extra me-time.
Hope all is well in your own current bubble!
Xoxo,
Emily J
